Voice Of The Wetlands

This weekend the Voice of the Wetlands Festival took place at the Southdown Plantation here in Houma. The event, created by Houma musician Tab Benoit, is meant to raise money to help save our wetlands here in south Louisiana before it is too late.
Lauren ran in the 10K race, and won! She had to sprint the last 100 meteres or so to hold off a competitor. She won by 2 seconds!
My old friend Susan Cowsill was one of the performers, and it has been several years since I had seen her. She put on a great show, and was joined by her brothers to play some Cowsills hits from the past. Luckily, I was able to spend a few minutes backstage with them.

Happy Fun

Okay, so maybe I'm not back in the blogging sense. Time seems to be something I have very little of, and I haven't been able to make blogging part of the routine.
Anyway, we finished recording the Happy Fun kids CD, and are awaiting the duplications to arrive from New Jersey. The pic is the album cover.

I'm Back

It's been an interesting year. I started a new job on Mardi Gras day and I must tell you it takes up quite a bit of time. I've been using facebook and recently began to twitter because of the ability to communicate in a sentence or two and stay connected. Blogging takes a little more effort than I've wanted to give, but I miss it, so here I am again.
The big news is that I've been in the recording studio working on a children's album. We are almost finished, and it should be released nationally within the next few months.
We made a trip back to Collinsville a few weeks ago and it was mucho fun.
Lauren is racing again, and winning. The kids are doing great, and start school again on Monday.
I'll try to do some blogs about some of the highlights of the last few months in my next several posts.

Abraham's Baptism

Sunday we celebrated Abraham's baptism. Our friend Father Jerry Villarubia, was the celebrant. Lauren's Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Steve were the godparent's. Abraham was fairly calm throughout. Afterword, we hosted a small reception at the house. It was a good time.

Kid Demos

I'm currently working on two music projects. One is an americana/folk-rock album and the other one a children's album. Today I completed the lead vocals for the kids songs demos. The girls are doing the back up vocals. They each completed one song today. They did a good job and seemed to enjoy it. They are excited about the next session.

46

I turned 46 yesterday. I got a haircut. The girls were off of school and wanted to go see the new Adam Sandler movie "Bedtime Stories", so we went. I had spent part of an evening hanging out with Adam many years ago and the girls had questions about that. Aside from spending too much time in line to get popcorn, it was a good time. After, we ordered some pizza from a place called The Redfish. Yummy. Then we had a little birthday celebration. Frederick sang a song about a monkey. It was a good time.

Chilli Cook Off!!!!!

I don't cook much. Lauren is a very good cook. In the last few months I've watched snippets of cooking shows and thought it would be something I might enjoy. In addition, Lauren could use the help. We have 5 little ones here in the house, and baby Abraham requires constant attention, especially since Lauren breast feeds.
Colette was looking through a cookbook Lauren received for Christmas and mentioned a chilli recipe that was listed. I asked her if she wanted to cook it with me and she said yes. Lauren volunteered to get the ingredients from the supermarket and a few days later I found myself in the kitchen with Colette, Bernadette, and Bridget, who all wanted to be chefs. The recipe listed the ingredients but didn't really give any instructions. No problem, as it wasn't hard to figure out. The girls did a great job in assisting my chilli cooking debut. They helped set the table and serve drinks. The chilli was a bit spicy, but not too spicy. The girls and Lauren thought it was quite tasty. I thought so too! It was a good time cooking with the girls and having a nice family dinner.

The New Years Cup

Our first annual New Years Cup soccer match was played today at Barrios Park. Bernadette and Colette comprised the FC Clark Gold Stars, while Bridget and I were members of FC Clark United. The Gold Stars struck first, and we traded goals throughout the duration. The Gold Stars made some fine passes, and Bridget made some fine defensive plays for United. The match ended in a 4-4 tie. Bridget was named MVP.
The next match in the cup series will be in a couple weeks, in the Daddy's Birthday Cup.
